SG-1 returns to Stargate Command from a mission and General George Hammond, commander of the base, informs them about the latest development regarding their former teammate, Dr. Daniel Jackson. He says that while Dr. Jackson followed an old Goa'uld ship to the planet Abydos, he made a shocking discovery that no Goa'uld had ever come across before. Dr. Jackson believed he had discovered the origin of the Stargates and wanted to share his discovery with the rest of the group.
After this briefing, Major Samantha Carter is seen driving in her car when a man suddenly appears in the passenger seat. She tries to eject the man from the vehicle but is unsuccessful. It is revealed that the man is Thor - the leader of the Asgard - one of the most advanced races in the galaxy. He explains that his race is being destroyed by evil and that they have just discovered something that could be the salvation they're looking for.
Soon, SG-1 arrives on Abydos and finds that Dr. Daniel Jackson has made an impressive and surprising discovery - the Ancient's technology. They find a device capable of dismantling the Stargate on a molecular level. This could potentially disable the gate entirely across the galaxy, preventing the Goa'ulds from using it to travel to other planets.
Abyss dwells on the other side of one of these Stargates on another planet and so SG-1 sets out on a mission. The team wants to destroy the planet's Stargate by going through to the other side, sabotaging it, and then coming back through. They hope this would prevent Reinhold from reaching Earth.
During this mission, they battle their way through the Dreadnought and infiltrate the Nemesis vessel. However, their plan to destroy the Stargate is foiled by Anubis' superior technology and Reinhold implants Teal'c with a Goa'uld.
The plan failed but SG-1 returns back to Earth with a new sense of urgency. They are facing one of their most formidable enemies ever, and if they fail, the entire galaxy will be at risk. The team is more determined than ever to save the galaxy and are willing to face any challenge that lies in their path.
