Divide and Conquer is the fifth episode of the fourth season of Stargate SG1. The episode starts with SG-1 returning to Earth from a mission when they are surprised to find out that the NID has sent Colonel Maybourne to take over the Stargate program. Maybourne tells them that he is there to investigate a series of security breaches that have occurred. Naturally, SG-1 is suspicious of why he is really there.
As Maybourne begins his investigation, Carter and O'Neill are captured by a new enemy: a Goa'uld that is able to pass through solid matter. They are taken to a planet and are brainwashed to believe that they are in love with each other, causing tension between the two characters. Eventually, they are able to break through their brainwashing and realize that their love for each other isn't real.
Meanwhile, Teal'c and Daniel are trying to solve the breach in security that Maybourne is investigating. They suspect that the Goa'uld System Lord, Apophis, is behind the breach. However, Maybourne doesn't believe them and things get heated between the two factions.
The episode deals with themes of trust and deception, as the characters try to figure out who they can trust and who is being deceptive. Maybourne's presence in the episode adds an extra layer of tension and suspicion that keeps the audience guessing until the end.
The writing and acting in Divide and Conquer are top-notch, as usual for Stargate SG1. The chemistry between characters is palpable, especially between Carter and O'Neill. The brainwashing sequence is particularly well done, with both actors showing a range of emotions that make the audience truly believe that they are in love. The tense scenes between Maybourne and the other characters are also well-executed, with the audience constantly questioning who is telling the truth.
Overall, Divide and Conquer is a standout episode in an already stellar season of Stargate SG1. It's well-acted, well-written, and full of tension and intrigue. Fans of the series won't be disappointed.
