SG-1 travel to a planet after an alien contagion which caused the death of multiple Jaffa. Upon arrival, they meet the planet's inhabitants, the Hak’tyl, a group of female Jaffa who were once slaves to the Goa'uld. The team discovers that the Hak'tyl are in possession of a sarcophagus which they use to resurrect their dead. Although SG-1 is initially relieved to see that the Hak'tyl won't die if they're infected, they quickly discover that the use of the sarcophagus has led to a harmful side effect.
As it turns out, every time a person is resurrected using the sarcophagus, they become progressively more aggressive and unstable. Furthermore, the sarcophagus appears to be having a negative impact on the Hak'tyl's mental health. SG-1 decide that it's best to destroy the sarcophagus, especially since they are unable to find a way to reverse its adverse effects.
However, the leader of the Hak'tyl, Ishta, is reluctant to let the time machine be destroyed. Ishta believes that the sarcophagus is crucial to the survival of her people. SG-1 finds themselves in a difficult position, as they attempt to understand the Hak'tyl's beliefs while also trying to do what's best for the galaxy.
As the team debates whether or not to destroy the sarcophagus, they uncover the true intentions of one of the Hak'tyl's recent arrivals. This individual has been secretly working with Herak, a Goa'uld, to create an army of Jaffa who are impervious to the effects of the alien contagion. The individual had been using the sarcophagus to resurrect and infect the Hak'tyl's Jaffa, in order to create the unstoppable army.
SG-1 quickly realizes the dangerous implications of this experiment and enlists the help of the Hak'tyl to stop it. In the end, they successfully destroy the sarcophagus and prevent Herak from creating an army of invincible Jaffa.
Overall, Demons is an engaging episode that showcases the ethical dilemmas that SG-1 often faces as they navigate through the galaxy. The introduction of the Hak'tyl is a welcome addition to the show, as it provides a new perspective on the Jaffa and the ways in which they have been impacted by the Goa'uld. The episode also showcases the creativity of the Stargate SG-1 writing team, as they find new ways to challenge the team and introduce new obstacles for them to overcome.
