While SG-1 is on a mission to calibrate the Stargate network, Carter has a flashback of Jolinar, an alien who infiltrated her body and was later killed. To find out what's happening, SG-1 sneaks into an off-world facility where they encounter a Goa'uld who is holding Jolinar's host body. The Goa'uld demands to know what Jolinar told SG-1 about his operations and threatens to kill the host if they don't tell him. SG-1 tries to get the host to remember what Jolinar said, but the host only remembers a few cryptic phrases.
Meanwhile, the rest of SG-1 enlists the aid of Martouf, a Tok'ra who was Jolinar's partner, to help them find out what information Jolinar may have passed on to them before her death. Martouf suggests a technique called a "mind probe" that can extract memories from someone's mind, but warns that it is dangerous and can potentially cause permanent damage. Despite this, Carter agrees to undergo the procedure to find out what Jolinar knew.
As they delve into Carter's memories, they uncover a shocking revelation about a past encounter with the Goa'uld system lord, Apophis, and the secrets Jolinar was trying to protect. With this information, SG-1 realizes that the Goa'uld they encountered on the planet is up to something far more dangerous than they initially thought.
As the situation becomes more dire, SG-1 must race against time to stop the Goa'uld's plans and save the life of Jolinar's former host. Along the way, they learn more about the Tok'ra and their fight against the Goa'uld, as well as the sacrifices that Jolinar made to protect Earth from their wrath.
In the end, while Carter is able to access some of Jolinar's memories, she and the rest of SG-1 are left with more questions than answers about the secretive and complex world of the Goa'uld and the Tok'ra. The episode ends on a cliffhanger as the team must now prepare for the next step in their fight against these powerful alien beings.
