SG-1 arrives on a planet with human-like inhabitants, but their peaceful life is interrupted by a wave of memory loss. The team must help the people discover the cause of their amnesia before a catastrophic event takes place.
As they explore the planet, SG-1 finds that the inhabitants, who call themselves the Enkarans, are a simple, but highly intelligent people living in a village that is powered entirely by geothermal energy. The Enkarans soon discover that SG-1 has come through the "Star Gate" and have brought with them the knowledge of the universe beyond their world.
In an effort to assist the Enkarans, SG-1 begins to investigate their memory loss and discovers that it is caused by a device that extracts memories from the Enkarans' minds. The device is a part of an advanced technology left behind by the planet's previous inhabitants, the Byrsa.
As SG-1 delves deeper into the Enkarans' recent history, they discover that their memory loss is no accident. Thirty years ago, a small group of Enkarans who had been seduced by the power of the Byrsa technology had attempted to overthrow their government and seize control of the Byrsa device. The resulting conflict had led to the device being activated and the loss of all memories from the previous day. Since then, the device has been activated several times, leading to the current memory crisis.
As SG-1 races against time to find a way to permanently disable the Byrsa device, they are plagued by the knowledge that the device may have affected them, too. In an attempt to help the Enkarans regain their memories, SG-1 must uncover the truth about the past, before the present is lost forever.
Filled with action, suspense, and intrigue, "Past and Present" is a thrilling episode of Stargate SG-1 that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. With the fate of an entire civilization hanging in the balance, SG-1 must use all their skills and ingenuity to save the Enkarans and themselves from the destructive consequences of their own past.
