After a mission to a planet with an underwater Stargate goes awry, the team returns to Earth with heavy hearts, believing that Daniel Jackson has perished. However, Jack O'Neill begins to experience vivid dreams of Daniel alive and in distress. As the dreams become more intense, Jack becomes convinced that Daniel is trying to communicate with them from beyond.
SG-1 sets out on a new mission to the planet from Jack's dreams, where they discover an underwater cavern containing a frozen human body. In hopes of discovering the truth about Daniel, they bring the body back to Earth for analysis by Stargate Command's top scientists. As tests are conducted, the body begins to thaw and reveal vital clues to SG-1 about their missing colleague.
With the help of some ancient relics found with the body, Jackson is located on the same planet within an underground temple. However, Daniel is not the same as the team remembers: his experiences have changed him and he reveals a dangerous ability to control the minds and perceptions of those around him. Daniel also reveals that the revelation of a race of powerful aliens, the Goa'uld, whom the team has clashed with several times, and demonstrates a knowledge of their tactics.
As SG-1 struggles to understand what has happened to Daniel, they are thrust into a deadly game of deception, in which their own minds are the target. As they race to uncover the truth about what has happened to Daniel, SG-1 must also contend with a Goa'uld threat to Earth, ultimately leading to a thrilling cliffhanger that will leave audiences anxiously awaiting Season 2.
