The Starship Enterprise is on its way to deliver a shipment of important materials to a remote mining planet when it comes across a strange ship piloted by one Harry Mudd, a notorious con artist and smuggler who is familiar with Captain Kirk. Mudd's ship is damaged and he begs for help, but Kirk suspects that he may be up to his old tricks.
Meanwhile, the Enterprise receives an unusual transmission from a nearby planet, indicating that there are three beautiful women there who are in need of rescue. After beaming down to the planet, Kirk and his crew find the women and bring them back aboard the Enterprise. It quickly becomes apparent that the women have a strange power over the men who interact with them, causing them to become enamored and willing to do anything for them.
As Kirk and his crew try to figure out what is going on, Harry Mudd reappears, claiming that he has a solution to the problem of the mining planet's labor shortage - he has a shipment of women who are perfectly suited to be wives to the miners. Kirk is skeptical, but agrees to take the shipment on board and transport them to the planet.
As they make their way to the mining planet, Kirk and his crew become increasingly concerned about the women's strange influence over their male counterparts. When they arrive at the planet, they discover that the women have been using a mysterious drug to enhance their beauty and desirability, but at a great cost to their health and well-being.
Kirk must confront Mudd and the women, and figure out a way to help them without putting the mission at risk. Along the way, he learns some hard lessons about the dangers of objectification and the importance of treating women as equals. By the end of the episode, things have been set right again, but it's clear that the Enterprise and its crew will never be the same again.
