Tuvok crash-lands on a moon while transporting three ensigns back to the USS Voyager. Upon making contact with the moon's inhabitants, Tuvok learns that an alien race known as the Komar approach the moon. The Komar are known for abducting and experimenting on children, which inevitably leads Tuvok to develop an overprotective instinct towards the three ensigns. Despite his efforts, one of the ensigns, Hennick, wanders away from the group and is taken by the Komar.
To Tuvok's surprise, the Komar return Hennick to him unharmed. The cause of their return confuses Tuvok, as the Komar have never released a subject before. Nevertheless, Tuvok and Hennick return to the rest of the group, and Hennick immediately reports to Janeway that the Komar are holding other children prisoners. Janeway immediately offers to help, and the crew comes up with a plan to infiltrate the Komar's base and free the prisoners.
While the rescue mission is underway, Tuvok reflects on his personal history as both a father and as a Vulcan. He realizes that his overprotective instincts towards the ensigns are rooted in a desire to protect the children that he couldn't save in his past. Meanwhile, the rest of the crew successfully infiltrates the Komar's base and frees the prisoners, and they all return to the Voyager.
Once the crisis is over, Janeway and Tuvok discuss the events that occurred on the moon and Tuvok's realization about his past. Janeway reassures him that every parent has moments of overprotection, and Tuvok admits that he felt an emotional connection with the ensigns. They bond over their shared experiences as the Voyager continues on its journey.
Overall, "Innocence" is a poignant episode that explores the emotional struggles and past traumas of Tuvok, as well as his relationships with his crewmates. It also highlights the brave and selfless actions of the Voyager crew as they band together to rescue innocent children from a treacherous alien race.
