Ep 10. Cold Fire

Voyager encounters a group of Ocampa who possess the ability to telekinetically manipulate energy. Kes meets one of them, Tanis, who claims to be able to help her control her own latent abilities. Despite Janeway's concerns, Kes agrees to travel with Tanis to his homeworld.

On the journey, Tanis reveals that he is a member of the 'Caretaker' species that brought Voyager and her crew to the Delta Quadrant. Tanis claims that he has been protecting the Ocampa for centuries and that he can help Kes unlock her full potential. Kes is eager to learn, but as they arrive on the planet, she realizes that something is not quite right with Tanis.

Meanwhile, Voyager is being pursued by a group of Tak Tak who believe that Voyager has stolen one of their ships. Janeway attempts to negotiate with them, but they refuse to listen and prepare to attack. Tuvok suggests using the energy manipulation abilities of the Ocampa to defend Voyager, but Janeway refuses, not wanting to risk alienating the Ocampa or putting Kes in danger.

As Kes continues her training with Tanis, she begins to uncover the truth about his intentions. He reveals that he plans to use her abilities to release a powerful alien entity that has been trapped for centuries. Kes realizes that Tanis is not what he seems and tries to stop him, but he is too powerful for her to handle alone.

Back on Voyager, the Tak Tak attack and the crew is forced to defend themselves without the aid of the Ocampa. As they struggle to survive, Janeway realizes that she has made a mistake in underestimating the abilities of the Ocampa.

Kes and Tanis' plan to release the entity is successful, but it turns out to be far more dangerous than they anticipated. The entity, known as the Nacene, takes control of Kes and begins to wreak havoc. Voyager is able to track down Kes and with the help of the Ocampa, they are able to defeat the Nacene and rescue Kes.

In the end, Kes decides to stay with the Ocampa to continue her training and to help protect them from any future threats. Voyager continues on its journey, but Janeway vows to never underestimate the abilities of any species they encounter again.
