The crew of the USS Enterprise must face an unexpected threat when the ship's computer is infected with a mysterious virus that triggers genetic mutations in every member of the crew. As the mutations continue to worsen, the crew must work together to find a cure before it's too late.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his first officer, Commander William Riker, are among the first to exhibit symptoms of the virus. Picard begins to transform into an ancient reptilian species, while Riker becomes more and more primitive, regressing into a state resembling that of an early human.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Worf transforms into a feral Klingon predator, and Counselor Deanna Troi becomes empathically linked to the ship's plants, causing her to take on their attributes. As the mutations progress, the ship becomes increasingly chaotic, with each crew member struggling to maintain their sanity and control their new instincts.
Doctor Beverly Crusher, who remains unaffected by the virus, races against time to find a cure before it's too late. Along with Lieutenant Commander Data, who is immune to the virus due to his android physiology, Crusher searches for a way to reverse the genetic mutations and save the crew.
As the transformations become more extreme, the crew faces new dangers. Picard's reptilian form becomes a threat to the ship's resources, while Worf's predatory nature causes him to hunt down other crew members. Even Data is not immune to danger, as his positronic brain begins to break down in the midst of the crisis.
With the ship and its crew pushed to the brink of disaster, Crusher must use all of her medical knowledge to find a cure. But the answer may be closer than anyone realizes, as the transformations are revealed to be the result of an ancient biological weapon that was accidentally released on the ship decades ago.
In a race against time, the crew must work together to find a way to reverse the damage before it's too late. But even as they struggle to maintain their humanity, they begin to realize the full extent of the threat they are facing, and the consequences that will follow if they can't find a cure.
In this thrilling episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the crew of the USS Enterprise must face their darkest fears and greatest challenges as they fight to save themselves and each other from a devastating biological threat.
