In Star Trek: The Next Generation, season 6 episode 21 titled "Frame of Mind", Commander Riker is seen descending into madness. He is performing in a play on an alien planet when he starts to experience hallucinations and is unable to differentiate between reality and imagination.

As the episode begins, Commander Riker is practicing for his role in the play, where he is portraying a man who is being held against his will in a mental institution. Meanwhile, back on the Enterprise, Captain Picard receives a distress signal from a research station on Tilonus IV, which has been sending out strange readings. He decides to lead an away team to the station to investigate.

During a break from rehearsals, Riker visits the holodeck to run through a simulation of a starship battle. However, he suddenly finds himself in a different location and unsure of how he got there. He is met by strange figures and experiences sudden shifts in his reality. When he returns to the play, he finds it difficult to continue with his performance.

On Tilonus IV, the away team finds the station in disarray, and they're unable to locate any of its inhabitants. As they continue their search, however, Captain Picard is suddenly transported to an unknown location, where he appears to be in a mental institution similar to the one in the play.

Back on the Enterprise, Riker's hallucinations continue to worsen. He is convinced that he is trapped in a mental institution and that his imprisonment is part of a larger conspiracy. He struggles to maintain his grip on reality and begins to fear that he is losing his mind.

Meanwhile, Captain Picard is tormented by his captors, who are forcing him to participate in a series of disturbing psychological experiments. He is unable to determine whether his experiences are real or imagined, and he begins to doubt his own sanity.

As the episode progresses, Riker's hallucinations become more intense. He is convinced that he has been locked away in a padded cell and is being subjected to an experiment designed to drive him insane. He is unable to distinguish between reality and his delusions, and he becomes consumed by his fear.

At the same time, Captain Picard is struggling to survive in his own mental prison. He is desperate to escape his captors and return to the Enterprise, but the way out seems to be blocked at every turn. He begins to suspect that his tormentors are not human and that they have a sinister agenda.

As the episode comes to a climax, Riker's condition worsens. He becomes increasingly paranoid and begins to lash out at those around him. It's clear that if something isn't done soon, he will be lost forever.

Meanwhile, Captain Picard is able to escape his captors and return to the Enterprise. However, he's left with deep emotional scars that will stay with him for some time.

"Frame of Mind" is a gripping and intense episode that explores the vulnerability of the human mind. As the characters struggle to navigate the murky waters of their own consciousness, they're forced to confront their deepest fears and insecurities. It's a thought-provoking episode that will leave viewers questioning their own perceptions of reality.
