In "Power Play," the 15th episode of the fifth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the Enterprise responds to a distress signal from an unknown planet. Upon arriving at the planet, a group of three rebels holds the captain and two senior officers hostage, attempting to take control of the ship. Meanwhile, those taken hostage begin to experience strange, unexplainable events happening to them.
The three rebels, who call themselves Troi, Data, and O'Brien, want the Enterprise to take them to a planet where they believe they will be safe from the government they are rebelling against. They demand that the crew follow their orders or the hostages will be killed. Despite their threats, Captain Picard refuses to give in to the demands and instead works to figure out a way to save his crew.
As the situation on board the Enterprise becomes more tense, Troi, Data, and O'Brien's true identities are called into question, and the crew begins to suspect that they are not who they claim to be. As the truth is slowly uncovered, the hostages' strange experiences become even more alarming, and the crew realizes they may be facing an even greater threat than they first thought.
Throughout the episode, the tension builds as the crew works to both protect themselves from the rebels and uncover the true nature of the situation. With each passing moment, the stakes get higher, and the viewer is left wondering whether the crew will be able to overcome this threat and make it out alive.
