A group of Ferengis led by Quark's mother, Ishka, are taken captive by the Dominion. Quark and Rom, along with some other Ferengi, decide to mount a rescue mission to save Ishka. The Ferengi have no military experience, so they decide to hire a few mercenaries to help. They enlist the help of Brunt, who is willing to help them in exchange for a cut of the Latinum they plan to steal from the Dominion. Brunt puts together a team of other mercenaries, including a Jem'Hadar defector named Keevan.
The Ferengi make a plan to sneak onto the Dominion ship where Ishka is being held and rescue her. They decide to pose as a group of entertainers to get past the Dominion guards. They bring along a holographic singer programmed to sing Ferengi love songs. They plan to use the distraction to get past the guards and rescue Ishka.
Once they are on the Dominion ship, the Ferengi encounter a problem. The Dominion guards know they are there and are waiting for them. They end up in a standoff with the guards, until Quark comes up with a plan. They decide to use Ishka as a bargaining chip. They call the Dominion leader and offer to exchange Ishka for a large sum of Latinum.
The Dominion leader agrees to the exchange, but only if the Ferengi also give up their weapons. The Ferengi reluctantly agree and hand over their weapons. The Dominion sends over a group of Jem'Hadar soldiers to escort Ishka back to the Ferengi ship. The Ferengi use this as an opportunity to steal the Latinum they were promised in exchange for Brunt's help.
As they make their escape, they are pursued by the Dominion. They manage to outrun their pursuers and make it back to Deep Space Nine with the Latinum and Ishka. Once they are back on the station, they realize that they have been double-crossed by Brunt. He took all of the Latinum they acquired and left them with nothing.
Despite being left empty-handed, the Ferengi are happy to have rescued Ishka and to have pulled off a successful mission. They toast to their success and to the Magnificent Ferengi.
