Ep 1. This Show Is Called Squidbillies

In the pilot episode of Squidbillies, we are introduced to the main characters of the show, the Cuyler family. The Cuylers are a family of anthropomorphic squid who live in the rural town of Dougal County, Georgia. The father, Early Cuyler, is a grumpy and abusive alcoholic who works as a mud diver. His son, Rusty Cuyler, is a dim-witted and innocent young squid who often finds himself caught up in his father's crazy schemes. Lastly, there is Granny Cuyler, the matriarch of the family who is nearly blind and hard of hearing, but still manages to be the toughest member of the group.

The episode begins with Early and Rusty outside of a convenience store, where Early is attempting to steal beer from a vending machine. When that plan fails, they decide to rob the store instead. However, things quickly go awry and they end up accidentally setting the store on fire. They then flee the scene in a stolen police car and head back to their home in Dougal County.

Upon arriving home, they find that their trailer has been repossessed. Early's immediate reaction is to attack the repo man, resulting in a physical altercation that Early ultimately loses. The repo man confiscates all of their belongings, except for their TV, which Early manages to save by hiding it in Rusty's underwear.

With nowhere else to turn, Early decides that they should live in the woods like "real squids." He steals an RV from a used car lot and takes the family on a wild ride through the forest. They eventually end up crashing the RV and setting it on fire, resulting in them being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

As they navigate their way through the wilderness, they encounter a group of tourists who mistake them for a new type of squid that they have never seen before. Taking advantage of the situation, Early convinces the group to pay to take pictures of them. However, the ruse doesn't last long and eventually the tourists catch on and flee.

The episode ends with the family back in their trailer, which they managed to get back after Early stole it from the repo man. They are all watching TV when they come across a show about squids and Rusty remarks, "This show is called Squidbillies." The camera zooms out to show the family watching TV in their dilapidated trailer, as the Squidbillies theme song plays.

Overall, the pilot episode of Squidbillies sets the tone for the show's irreverent and boundary-pushing humor. The characters are bizarre and comically dysfunctional, and the situations they find themselves in are absurd and ridiculous. The animation style is unique and gritty, with a roughness that perfectly complements the show's anarchic energy. If you enjoy dark and surreal humor, then Squidbillies is definitely a show worth checking out.
