In the first segment, "New Fish in Town," SpongeBob eagerly welcomes a new fish, named Howard, to Bikini Bottom. Howard is from an underwater city called "Atlantis" and SpongeBob is excited to show him around town. However, it quickly becomes clear that Howard doesn't quite fit in with the other citizens of Bikini Bottom. He's interested in things that they've never heard of before, like restaurants that serve anything other than Krabby Patties and art that isn't made entirely of jellyfish.
SpongeBob is determined to help Howard fit in and tries to teach him about all the things that make Bikini Bottom great. They go to the Krusty Krab, but Howard finds the Krabby Patties too spicy and doesn't enjoy them. They go to the Goo Lagoon, but Howard isn't interested in sunbathing or sandcastle building. SpongeBob starts to feel discouraged, but Howard assures him that he's having a great time and is happy to learn about a new place.
As the day goes on, Howard starts to appreciate certain aspects of Bikini Bottom that he initially didn't understand. He makes friends with a group of jellyfish and finds the quirky personalities of the town's residents to be endearing. Though Howard is different from everyone else, he realizes that he can still fit in by finding common ground with others. SpongeBob is thrilled to have made a new friend and welcomes Howard to Bikini Bottom.
The second segment, "Love That Squid," revolves around Squidward's love life. After some convincing from SpongeBob, Squidward signs up for a dating website. He's skeptical at first, but soon starts to talk to a fellow cephalopod named Debbie. They hit it off over their shared love of classical music and decide to have a date at Squidward's house.
However, Squidward quickly realizes that Debbie is not what he expected. She's bossy, demanding, and doesn't seem to appreciate Squidward's interests. Squidward tries to keep his cool, but eventually gets fed up with her behavior and kicks her out of his house.
Feeling discouraged about his prospects for love, Squidward goes to work the next day and is surprised to find that a new employee, who is also a squid, is working at the Krusty Krab. Her name is Squilvia and she's everything that Debbie wasn't – kind, considerate, and loves classical music just as much as Squidward.
Squidward is ecstatic to have met someone who shares his interests and they quickly hit it off. However, when Squidward tells SpongeBob about Squilvia, he accidentally blurts out that Squidward has never had a successful date before. Squilvia overhears and feels hurt that Squidward didn't trust her enough to be honest about his past.
Squidward tries to make it up to her by playing a beautiful piece of classical music on his clarinet. Squilvia is touched and forgives him, and they continue their date with a newfound appreciation for honesty and trust. Squidward realizes that sometimes finding love means being yourself and being honest about your past.
