In "Sailor Mouth," SpongeBob and Patrick discover a "bad word" on a dumpster's side. They find it really funny and start using it as much as they can, not realizing this word is highly offensive and inappropriate. Mr. Krabs sees the two of them using the word and decides to teach them a lesson, revealing the true meaning behind the word and how it is not suitable for use in civilized society. SpongeBob and Patrick learn their lesson and feel ashamed for using the word.
In "Artist Unknown," Squidward goes to an art museum and sees a piece of art that inspires him to create his own masterpiece. He spends days putting his heart and soul into the piece, but it is so abstract that no one can understand it. Despite this, Squidward is still convinced that it is a masterpiece and enters it into a local art show. However, his piece is so different from every other piece that the judges don't understand it and think it is a joke. Squidward is devastated but SpongeBob and Patrick see the beauty in his work and convince him that it is still a masterpiece, even if others don't understand it.
Overall, both episodes show the importance of language and art. "Sailor Mouth" teaches children and adults alike the importance of being mindful of the language they use. Even if something seems like a joke, it's important to recognize that words have power and should be used carefully and thoughtfully. "Artist Unknown" teaches viewers that art is subjective and should be appreciated in all forms, even if it's not understood by everyone. Both episodes also show the importance of sticking to your beliefs and not letting others diminish your work or feelings.
