Splatter is a horror-comedy television series that premiered in 2009 on the Canadian channel Super Channel, and was subsequently released on DVD in North America and Europe. Produced by Fireworks International, the 8-episode series is a tongue-in-cheek take on the horror genre, featuring over-the-top gore, campy humor, and a cast of eccentric characters.

The show is centered around the fictional town of Pleasantville, which is known for its high incidence of bizarre and gruesome deaths. The protagonist is Troy, a struggling artist who moves to Pleasantville in the hopes of finding inspiration for his paintings. However, he soon becomes embroiled in the strange and dangerous world of Pleasantville, as he finds himself caught between a group of quirky misfits and a cult of murderous artists.

The characters in Splatter are a mix of stereotypes and original creations, all of whom are exaggerated for comedic effect. There is the town sheriff, who is clueless and inept; the two bumbling police officers who are always a step behind the action; the tiny, feisty bartender who is always ready with a shotgun; and the mysterious and charismatic leader of the artists' cult, who is a master of manipulation.

Along with Troy, the main characters include his landlady, an eccentric old woman who is obsessed with horror movies; and a group of misfits who call themselves The League of S.T.E.A.M. (Supernatural and Troublesome Ectoplasmic Apparition Management), who are dedicated to battling the supernatural forces that plague Pleasantville. The League includes a ninja, a scientist, a cowboy, and a steampunk engineer, all of whom bring their unique skills and personalities to the mix.

Despite its comedic tone, Splatter is not for the faint of heart. The show is filled with graphic violence and gore, as well as sexual content and drug use. The killings are creative and often ridiculous, with victims being dispatched in bizarre ways, such as being killed by a giant paintbrush or having their faces melted off by acid.

The series also features a unique visual style, with each episode featuring a different artist's interpretation of the events. This allows for a wide range of styles, from cartoonish to hyper-realistic, and adds to the show's overall sense of unpredictability. The use of bright colors and playful visual effects also helps to balance out the dark subject matter.

Splatter received mixed reviews upon its release, with some critics praising its originality and humor, while others found it to be too campy and gratuitous. However, it has gained a cult following over the years, with fans appreciating its unique blend of horror and comedy.

In conclusion, Splatter is a wild and unpredictable ride that is not for the faint of heart. Its over-the-top gore and humor may not be to everyone's taste, but for those who enjoy a good horror-comedy, it is a must-see. The show's original characters and unique visual style make it stand out from other entries in the genre, and its mix of satire and horror make it a perfect fit for fans of both.
