Spirit Riding Free: Riding Academy follows the adventures of a group of friends who are passionate about horses and riding. In season 1 episode 1, "Home Is Where the Herd Is," we are introduced to a new setting and a new group of characters.
The episode begins with a group of horses and their riders making their way through the countryside. We are quickly introduced to our main character, Pru, a skilled rider who is passionate about all things equestrian. Pru is excited to be going to a new academy, where she hopes to develop her riding skills even further. As she approaches the academy, she is greeted by her best friends, Lucky and Abigail, who are also passionate about horses.
The academy is a beautiful place, set in the heart of the countryside. It is run by a strict headmistress, Mrs. Bailey, who believes that discipline and dedication are key to becoming a successful rider. The girls are given a tour of the academy and shown their dormitories. They are thrilled to be starting their new adventure.
However, as they settle into their dormitories, the girls realize that they are not in the same room. Pru is devastated, as she had hoped to share a room with her best friends. Mrs. Bailey explains that the girls are separated by skill level, and that Pru is in the advanced class. Pru is worried that she will not make new friends and misses Lucky and Abigail.
The next day, the girls begin their riding lessons. Pru is placed in a class with two other advanced riders, Bianca and Marcus. Bianca is a talented rider who is very competitive, while Marcus is more laid-back and easygoing. Despite feeling a little intimidated by Bianca, Pru is determined to excel and show Mrs. Bailey that she belongs in the advanced class.
As the days pass, the girls are given more challenging riding tasks. Pru manages to impress Mrs. Bailey with her skills, but she still feels lonely and misses her friends. Lucky and Abigail are also struggling at their end, and they too are having a hard time making new friends.
One day, Pru overhears Bianca talking about how lucky she is to have grown up with horses and how they are like family to her. This makes Pru realize that she also misses her horse, Chica Linda, and that horses really do feel like family. She decides to sneak out of the academy to visit Chica Linda at her old home.
When she gets there, Pru is reunited with Chica Linda, and the two share a special moment. Pru realizes that this is where she belongs, with her horse and her friends. She returns to the academy feeling inspired and determined to make the most of her time there.
The episode concludes with Pru reuniting with Lucky and Abigail and telling them about her adventure. The girls decide to band together and become the best riders they can be, while also keeping their friendship strong. The episode ends with the girls riding off into the sunset, ready for whatever adventures await them.
