As suggested in the previous episode, Spirit Riding Free: Pony Tales season 1 returns with Tea for Twins, which highlights the story of possible twin brothers who look identical, but have different backgrounds. The show's main character, Lucky, investigates a mysterious case of two young boys trying to buy a horse from the Palomino Bluffs stable. One boy, Ian, comes from a wealthy family and is openly passionate about horses, while the other, Elijah, has to work in an auto shop to support his family and can't afford to give his equestrian dreams wings. Lucky is confused by the circumstance in which the two boys meet at the stable and offers to help them solve the mystery.
The problem is that Ian and Elijah's personalities are quite the opposite. Ian is confident and assertive, while Elijah is reserved and unsure of himself. Ian can comfortably afford to buy any horse he likes, but Elijah can't. However, they both want to purchase the fast and fiery horse named Comet and are ready to go to any lengths to get him. Lucky catches up with Comet and realizes that he's stolen. Lucky can't wait to find out more and decides to help the boys figure out a plan.
Lucky and her friends help the twins prepare for a tea party, where Lucky hopes to gather more clues about their behavior and intentions. The twins' reaction to the party is quite telling of their personalities. Ian is excited and gives the girls a lecture on English tea parties while Elijah is a bit skeptical and wants to go home. Despite their different attitudes, Lucky succeeds in getting Ian and Elijah to open up. They talk about their lives, their dreams, and ultimately, their desire to own and ride Comet. They revealed that the reason they were together was that it was their birthday and they decided to spend the day at the stable.
After the tea party, Lucky and her friend Pru find a broken fence that once secured Comet's stall. This discovery proves that Comet didn't run away and was, in fact, stolen. Lucky and Pru decide to investigate further and visit the auto shop that Elijah works at. They find the Comet, but Elijah says he's fixing it for a customer and can't sell it. Lucky is doubtful of Elijah's explanation and leaves the shop unconvinced.
The next day, Lucky and Pru hang out with the twins, but Lucky can't help but think Elijah has something to do with Comet's theft. She confronts Elijah, and he finally admits that he took the horse and hid him, not realizing that it would cause so much trouble. He wanted to have a great day on his birthday and impress Ian by riding the horse he wished to own. Lucky argues that he should have just asked for what he wanted, and Elijah finally realizes that he had other options than to steal Comet. At the end of the day, the twins apologize to their families and the stable owner for their actions, and Elijah learns an important lesson in honesty and integrity.
In the end, the twins visit the Palomino Bluffs stable again and decide to spend the day together with Lucky and her friends. Ian and Elijah realize that they are different but have a common interest and decide that they want to share their love for riding horses. In a way, they become twins of similar hearts despite their different backgrounds. The episode ends with Lucky and her friends getting on horses and riding into the sunset, together, as a group of horseback riding enthusiasts.
