In Spiral (English Subtitled) season 8 episode 1, titled Episode 01, we are reintroduced to police captain Laure Berthaud, who is still reeling from the events of the previous season. She has been suspended from her duties and is struggling to cope with her personal life. At the same time, her former subordinate, Gilou, is facing trial for his corruption charges.

Laure is staying with her mother, who is terminally ill, and finds solace in caring for her. She crosses paths with Ali Amrani, a young man from a troubled background who is accused of attacking a police officer. Despite her suspension, Laure takes it upon herself to investigate the case and uncovers a web of corruption and deceit.

Meanwhile, lawyer Joséphine Karlsson is back in the game after a hiatus. Her estranged father reaches out to her for help in a court case, which brings up unresolved issues from her past. She also takes on the defence of a young girl accused of terrorism.

The episode also delves into the personal lives of the characters. Roban is adjusting to his new position as the Minister of Justice, while Judge Vidal is grappling with the aftermath of his affair with Laure.

As always, Spiral (English Subtitled) delivers a gripping crime drama with complex characters and intricate plotlines. This season promises to be as intense and engaging as the previous ones, with familiar faces and new challenges. Episode 01 sets up the overarching themes of corruption and justice, and leaves us wanting more.
