As Holo and Lawrence make their way towards Yoitsu, they wind up in the town of Kumersun. However, their peaceful respite is quickly disrupted by the arrival of a strange merchant caravan. The leader of the caravan immediately recognizes Holo as a wolf, and despite Lawrence's attempts to calm them down, the villagers become suspicious and frightened of their presence.
As tensions rise, Lawrence and Holo find themselves at odds with one another. Holo is convinced that Lawrence does not understand the gravity of their situation, while Lawrence is frustrated with Holo's stubbornness. Matters only grow worse when Holo discovers that Lawrence has made a deal with the leader of the caravan - a deal that involves Holo's freedom.
