Ep 2. Story Book

Space Ghost, the former superhero, continues his talk show in space. In season 2 episode 2, entitled "Story Book," Space Ghost summons his guests while he himself is reading a book. First, he welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning author, E.L. Doctorow. Doctorow is amused by the book that Space Ghost is reading, which turns out to be a Choose Your Own Adventure book. Doctorow plays along and offers to help Space Ghost choose his own adventure.

Next, Space Ghost introduces his second guest, comedian Denis Leary. Leary seems unimpressed by Doctorow's presence, but the tension is diffused when Doctorow compliments Leary's book and how he describes New York City. The conversation turns to writing influences, with Doctorow citing the greats like Hemingway and Fitzgerald, while Leary admits to being influenced by comic books.

Throughout the show, Space Ghost continues to read his Choose Your Own Adventure book, and Doctorow continues to offer suggestions for Space Ghost's adventure. The book is about a space mission, and Doctorow suggests Space Ghost take the path that leads to the most chaos and mayhem.

Leary continues to joke and riff with Space Ghost, even breaking into song at one point. However, Doctorow seems more reserved and formal, occasionally looking bewildered at the strangeness of the show he's on. As the show progresses, Space Ghost's adventure becomes more and more ludicrous, with Doctorow's suggestions leading to Space Ghost encountering a mad scientist and time-traveling to different eras.

In one particularly humorous moment, Leary quips at Space Ghost's expense, which prompts Space Ghost to hit Leary with a fire extinguisher. Doctorow remains aloof, but offers his own brand of humor by suggesting that Space Ghost go to the "writer's block planet."

As the episode winds down, Space Ghost eventually finishes his book, with Doctorow pronouncing "the end" after Space Ghost declares he's finished. Doctorow's demeanor remains reserved throughout the show, but his wit and humor shine through in his suggestions for Space Ghost's adventure. Leary provides the bulk of the jokes (often at Space Ghost's expense), but Doctorow adds a level of intellectualism that contrasts with the other guests who appear on the show.

Overall, "Story Book" is a hilarious episode of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, combining the surreal humor of the show with the high-brow humor of Doctorow. The interaction between the guests is entertaining, with Leary and Doctorow providing a nice contrast to one another. The Choose Your Own Adventure storyline adds a unique element to the show and allows Doctorow to showcase his storytelling abilities in a new way.
