Ep 1. The Launch

In the first episode of Space Force titled "The Launch," we are introduced to General Mark Naird, played by Steve Carell, as he is at the height of his military career. He and his team of scientists are gathered at Cape Canaveral for the launch of a brand new satellite, a launch that does not go as planned. There is a malfunction with the rocket, and it causes it to veer off course, almost crashing into a city. Tensions are high as everyone is on edge, and it seems that this setback could seriously derail Naird's career.

After the failed launch, Naird is called into a meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They inform him that they have been given a new task, to create a new branch of the military known as the Space Force. This new branch will be dedicated to space exploration, protection, and defense. Naird is not thrilled about this new assignment, as he feels it is frivolous and unnecessary, but he has no choice in the matter.

Naird is given a team of scientists and engineers and tasked with creating the Space Force. He meets with his team, led by Dr. Adrian Mallory, played by John Malkovich, who is a brilliant scientist who is not excited about working with Naird. They clash from the start, but Mallory reluctantly agrees to help Naird with his new mission.

Throughout the episode, we see Naird and his team face plenty of challenges as they try to build the Space Force from scratch. They have some major obstacles to overcome, from finding a suitable location for the new base to figuring out how to communicate with satellites and other spacecraft. There are also plenty of bureaucratic issues to deal with, as well as opposition from within the military and the government.

Despite all of these challenges, Naird is determined to make the Space Force a success. He has a lot to prove, both to himself and to those around him. He seems out of his element, but he is a good leader who is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

The first episode of Space Force sets the stage for what promises to be an engaging and entertaining new show. It has a fun and quirky sense of humor, and the chemistry between Steve Carell and John Malkovich is excellent. The show also touches on some more serious themes, such as the role of the military in space exploration and the importance of innovation and scientific progress.

Overall, "The Launch" is a great start to the series that does a good job of introducing us to the characters and establishing the premise of the show. We are left with plenty of questions and eagerly anticipating what comes next for Naird and the Space Force.
