In South Park season 7 episode 13 titled "Butt Out," the town of South Park is under attack from anti-smoking advocates who are pushing for a ban on smoking in all public places, including bars and restaurants.
The campaign is spearheaded by a group of ex-smokers called "Smoke Stoppers" who have taken it upon themselves to rid the town of the smoking scourge. However, their tactics are extreme and they begin to infringe on people's personal liberties by banning smoking even in private homes and cars.
This doesn't sit well with the boys, who love their cigarettes and see the anti-smoking crusaders as a threat to their way of life. They also fear that their favorite hangout, the local Mexican restaurant Casa Bonita, will be forced to close if a smoking ban is put into effect.
The boys decide to take matters into their own hands and start a campaign of their own, called "Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em," to fight against the smoking ban. They even give out free cigarettes to anyone who wants them.
Meanwhile, the Smoke Stoppers continue to ramp up their efforts and start a shock campaign to scare kids away from smoking. They show a series of grotesque images of people with smoking-related illnesses, even going as far as to dress up as diseased smokers and scare the children on Halloween.
The two groups clash in a heated town hall meeting where they try to persuade the town to support their cause. But the meeting gets out of hand, and it's ultimately up to the boys to find a solution that will satisfy both sides and save Casa Bonita from closing.
"Butt Out" is a satirical take on the anti-smoking movement and the controversy surrounding smoking bans. It highlights the conflict between personal liberty and public health concerns and serves as a critique of both sides. The episode is filled with South Park's trademark humor and social commentary, making it both hilarious and thought-provoking.
