In the first episode of South Park's sixth season, titled "Jared Has Aides," the town's residents become enamored with a new weight loss program endorsed by Jared Fogle, the real-life spokesperson for Subway at the time. As everyone tries to jump on the bandwagon to shed a few pounds, Eric Cartman takes particular interest in becoming Jared's protégé.
But things take a turn when the boys discover that Jared actually has AIDS, and that his miraculous weight loss was the result of being infected with the disease. In a classic South Park twist, the boys' attempts to expose Jared's secret are thwarted by the town's obsession with weight loss.
Meanwhile, Chef struggles to come to terms with his newfound attraction to Alanis Morissette, who makes a guest appearance in the episode. As Chef tries to resist the singer's advances, the whole town begins to sing her hit song "Ironic" at every possible opportunity.
As with most South Park episodes, "Jared Has Aides" tackles a number of different topics and themes, from the dangers of fad diets to the power of celebrity endorsements. The episode also features several memorable moments, including a hilarious parody of rap music videos and a running gag involving Carmen's refusal to say "AIDS" out loud.
Overall, "Jared Has Aides" is a classic South Park episode that manages to be both hilarious and thought-provoking. While it certainly hasn't aged perfectly (like many early episodes of the show, it can be a little crude at times), it remains a great example of the show's ability to take on complex issues with humor and wit.
