In South Park season 14 episode 3, titled "Medicinal Fried Chicken," the town of South Park undergoes a major transformation with the arrival of a new type of business: medicinal marijuana dispensaries. Believing that this new industry will bring them a lot of cash, Cartman and his friends get excited and determined to take advantage of it.
However, the dispensaries are only accessible to those with a medical marijuana card, and Cartman schemes to acquire it for himself. He soon discovers that the process is more difficult than he originally thought, as he must have a qualifying condition in order to receive the card.
Desperate for a way to obtain the card, Cartman encourages the town to protest the use of KFC and in the chaos that ensues, he discovers that the restaurants frying grease can be used to enhance the effects of smoking marijuana.
As more and more of the town begin using KFC to get high, the spillover effect causes large changes to the town's economy, driving the dispensaries bankrupt. This earns Cartman and the boys the ire of the town's dispensary operators, and the rest of the episode follows the group as they navigate a dangerous feud with the operators.
As the conflict between those who smoke marijuana from the dispensaries and those who use the KFC concoction as enhancements escalates, the town becomes divided and violent, making the group wonder if their new business venture was truly worth it.
Overall, South Park season 14 episode 3 offers a satirical look into the medical marijuana industry and its effects on small towns, as well as a humorous take on the extremes to which people will go to get high. The episode is filled with hilarious moments that are sure to have fans of the show laughing out loud, while also providing some food for thought when it comes to the impact of the legalization of marijuana.
