South of Hell is a gripping supernatural drama series that takes viewers on a fascinating ride through the world of demons and the supernatural. This series is a collaborative effort between Shout! Factory TV, Sonar Entertainment and Blumhouse Productions. The show features Maria Abascal (played by Mena Suvari), a Charleston demon hunter with a dark and mysterious past. The show is set in the city of Charleston, where Maria operates along with her brother David Abascal (played by Zachary Booth), a former priest who has now become an agnostic. They both have their unique backgrounds and personalities which make for an intriguing storyline.

The demons in the show are not your typical, supernatural creatures. The show takes a unique approach to demons having not only a visual representation but other senses such as smell and touch that cause insanity and terror. The demons in this show are extremely dangerous and difficult to defeat.

As the series unfolds, Maria's life takes a turn when she discovers that she has a demon living inside her. Her greatest strength thus turns into one of her biggest weaknesses. She is wrestling with herself between two opposing forces, one side wanting to do good for the world while the other just wants chaos.

With her own demons to fight, Maria is thrust into an intriguing storyline that peers into her past and present demons driving her to the brinks of her sanity. With her brother and exorcist friend alongside her, Maria sets out to battle other demons and protect the residents of Charleston from destruction.

Throughout the series, viewers are also introduced to other characters such as Camron (played by Bill Irwin), a mysterious scientist; and Grace (played by Lamman Rucker), a police detective. Maria is tasked to not only to fight the demons but also to unravel the mystery of their existence, and as the series progresses, the tension around the mysteries heightens.

The show is most definitely for people who can withstand intense thrillers as the storyline is relentlessly suspenseful. It delves deep into the characters' minds and their relationships with one another. Each episode leaves viewers on the edge of their seats, wanting more.

South of Hell carries an underlying theme of self-discovery and redemption that makes for a compelling storyline right from start to finish. The show has a great balance of drama, thriller, and action which evolve throughout the series. The effects and graphics of the show are top-notch, and the cinematography and camera work masterfully help carry the story forward. These combined elements make the show perfect for binge-watching.

One of the most captivating aspects of South of Hell is the relationships between characters. The bond between brothers David and Maria is one of the core elements of the show. They have a unique dynamic when it comes to their approaches to demon hunting, with David being a skeptic and Maria being a believer. Besides the two of them, each character's relationship in the show has its set of sub-plots that are just as intriguing.

South of Hell is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys fantastic thrillers and supernatural drama packed by talented casts, excellent direction, and dramatic storylines. Despite a single season of just eight episodes produced, this show is undoubtedly brilliant and worth the watch.
