The 14th Annual Soul Train Music Awards is finally here and it's a night filled with music legends, soulful performances, and exciting award categories. Hosts Patti LaBelle, Anita Baker, and Luther Vandross kick off the show with an electrifying opening performance that sets the tone for the evening.
The nominees for Best R&B/Soul Single, Female are Mariah Carey for "Vision of Love", Toni Braxton for "Another Sad Love Song", En Vogue for "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)", Whitney Houston for "I Will Always Love You", and Shanice for "I Love Your Smile". The competition is tough but the winner is announced and takes the stage to accept their award and give a speech.
Next up is Best R&B/Soul Single, Male and the nominees are Michael Jackson for "Remember the Time", R. Kelly for "Bump n' Grind", Bobby Brown for "Humpin' Around", Luther Vandross for "Power of Love/Love Power", and Freddie Jackson for "Me and Mrs. Jones". The crowd is buzzing with anticipation but only one can be crowned the winner.
The show also features a tribute to the late iconic musician Ray Charles, with performances from Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, and Gladys Knight. The audience is brought to their feet as they sing along to some of Ray Charles’ greatest hits.
