As the second season of Sons of Anarchy reaches its penultimate episode, tensions in the fictional town of Charming, California are at an all-time high. The episode, titled "Service," sees the biker gang at the center of the series attempting to regain a measure of control over their own affairs, even as outside forces conspire against them.
The episode begins with the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original (SAMCRO) coming together for a funeral service for one of their own. The ceremony is a poignant reminder of the high stakes of the biker lifestyle, as members are forced to confront the reality that they may not live to see another day. The scene is also an opportunity for viewers to see the close bonds that exist between the members of SAMCRO, as they support each other emotionally during the difficult time.
However, as the episode progresses, it becomes clear that the Sons' troubles are far from over. In particular, the gang's leader, Clay Morrow, finds himself increasingly at odds with the town's chief of police, Wayne Unser. Unser has long been a friend of SAMCRO, but lately, he has been working behind the scenes to undermine the gang's power and influence. Clay becomes increasingly frustrated by Unser's actions, and his anger ultimately boils over, with violent consequences.
Meanwhile, other members of SAMCRO are dealing with their own problems. The club's treasurer, Bobby Munson, discovers that the gang's financial situation is much more dire than he had previously imagined. With the club's funds running dangerously low, Bobby begins to question whether they will be able to keep the lights on for much longer. At the same time, the Sons' loose cannon, Tig Trager, becomes embroiled in a dangerous situation involving a rival gang, which threatens to spill over into open violence.
Perhaps most significant of all, however, is the ongoing struggle between Jax Teller, the gang's charismatic young vice president, and his stepfather, Clay. Jax has become increasingly disillusioned with the direction that SAMCRO has been taking, and he believes that Clay's leadership is leading the gang down a dangerous path. Jax's concerns come to a head in this episode, as he makes a bold move to try to steer the club in a different direction. It's a risky move, and it puts him at odds with some of the club's most powerful members.
All in all, "Service" is a tense and engaging episode of Sons of Anarchy. As the season approaches its climax, viewers are left wondering what direction SAMCRO will take, and whether the club will be able to overcome the obstacles that stand in their way.
