Something to Talk About is a heartwarming drama-comedy that was released in 1995. It is directed by Lasse Hallstrom and stars the incomparable Julia Roberts whose portrayal of Grace, a Southern woman whose seemingly idyllic life starts to unravel after she learns her husband, Eddie, played by Dennis Quaid, is having an affair. The film boasts of an extremely talented cast that also includes Robert Duvall, Gena Rowlands, Kyra Sedgwick, and Haley Aull among others.

The story is set in Georgia and it starts off with Grace, who runs a horse farm, going to pick up Eddie from a fishing trip. However, when Eddie comes back, he is cold and distant and acts like he has something to hide. Eventually, Grace finds out that he is having an affair with a younger woman and to make matters worse, everyone in the small Georgia town, including her family, knows about it. Not only that, but Eddie's infidelity brings to light some long-buried family secrets that threaten to tear their family apart.

As Grace tries to come to terms with Eddie's betrayal, she also has to deal with the pressures of her family, who expect her to forgive him and move on, and the society around her that is not very kind to divorced women. Grace's relationship with her strong-willed mother, played by Gena Rowlands, is particularly nuanced as she tries to balance her own desires with what is expected of her as a wife and daughter. In addition, the film showcases the complexities of family dynamics as Grace's father, played by Robert Duvall, tries to act as a mediator between Grace and Eddie, while grappling with his own troubled past.

One of the key themes of the film is the idea of generational change and the tension between traditional values and modern lifestyles. The film explores how Grace's desire for personal autonomy clashes with her husband's need for control and how this conflict impacts their relationship. The story also touches on gender roles and how women are expected to conform to societal norms even when it goes against their own interests.

However, despite the serious themes dealt with, the film manages to be humorous and engaging. The Southern charm of the small town is evident in the way the characters interact with each other, and the comic moments provide a welcome relief to the tension that permeates the narrative. The film also features some excellent performances, particularly from Roberts and Quaid, who are able to convey a wide range of emotions with ease.

The movie is beautifully shot with picturesque views of the Southern landscape that make it a treat to watch. The costume design is also noteworthy as it captures the essence of Southern style and culture. The film's soundtrack is also memorable with some classic country songs and ballads that add to the atmosphere of the film.

Overall, Something to Talk About is a compelling drama that offers an incisive commentary on relationships, traditional values, and personal autonomy set in a picturesque Southern town. With a brilliant cast and nuanced performances, the film offers viewers an engaging and thought-provoking experience that leaves a lasting impression.
