Snobs is a comedy television series that aired on Nine Network Australia from 2003 to 2004. The show follows the lives of a couple of working-class individuals, Charlie and Liz, as they navigate their way through the upper-class social circles of Sydney's North Shore. The show's title is a play on words, as the characters are both snobs in their own way, despite coming from humble beginnings.
Charlie is a former plumber who now works as a handyman, while Liz is a hairdresser. The two of them have been dating for a few years and are content with their simple life in the outer suburbs of Sydney. However, their lives change when they are offered the chance to live in a luxurious mansion in the affluent suburb of Vaucluse. The catch is that they must pose as wealthy socialites and attend high society events in order to maintain the illusion. Hilarity ensues as Charlie and Liz attempt to fit in with the snobbish residents of Vaucluse, while keeping their true identities a secret.
The show's premise is reminiscent of the classic comedy film "Trading Places," in which a homeless man is given the opportunity to live like a rich person, albeit temporarily. However, Snobs puts a unique spin on the concept by focusing on the social dynamics of the North Shore, a notoriously exclusive and competitive enclave of Sydney's wealthiest residents. The show mocks the pretensions and snobbery of Sydney's upper crust, while also poking fun at Charlie and Liz's naivet
