Ep 5. Theresa Ramirez

Theresa Ramirez, the latest episode of the long-running true crime series, Snapped, explores the life of a woman who went to great lengths to maintain her façade as a devoted mother, wife, and member of her community, all while harboring dark secrets that would eventually lead to her downfall.

The episode opens with a re-creation of the morning of August 22, 2014, when the San Antonio police department received a frantic call from Theresa Ramirez, reporting that her husband, Nicolas Ramirez, had been shot multiple times in their home. The police arrived on the scene to find Nicolas Ramirez dead, with gunshot wounds to his face, chest, and arms. Theresa Ramirez tells the police that her husband had been abusive and had threatened to kill her and their children multiple times, and that she had killed him in self-defense.

As the investigation unfolds, however, detectives quickly realize that there is much more to the story than what Theresa is telling them. They discover that Theresa had been having an affair with a much younger man, and that she had been planning to leave her husband and take their children with her. They also learn that she had taken out a $300,000 life insurance policy on her husband just a few months before his death, and that she had made several large cash withdrawals from their joint bank accounts in the days leading up to the shooting.

As the evidence mounts against her, Theresa's defense team tries to argue that she had been the victim of years of abuse at the hands of her husband, and that she had snapped and killed him in a moment of desperation. But the prosecution shows that there is no evidence of abuse, and that Theresa's claims of self-defense are contradicted by the forensic evidence and the testimony of witnesses who saw the couple together in the days before the shooting.

The jury deliberates for several days, but in the end, they find Theresa Ramirez guilty of murder and sentence her to life in prison. In the final moments of the episode, we see Theresa herself, still maintaining her innocence and claiming that she was unfairly convicted. But the reality of her situation is clear: she will likely spend the rest of her life in jail, all because of the lies and secrets that she tried so hard to hide.
