In season 24, episode 7 of Snapped, viewers are introduced to Diana Lovejoy. Diana is a fitness instructor who is going through a divorce with her husband, Greg Mulvihill. During this time, Diana meets a man named Weldon McDavid, Jr. at the gun range where she practices shooting. Weldon is an ex-Marine sniper who becomes Diana’s shooting instructor and later, her lover.
As Diana and Greg’s divorce proceedings continue, tensions rise between the couple over finances and the custody of their young son. Diana becomes increasingly frustrated with Greg and wants him out of her life for good. She confides in Weldon, who suggests they hire a hitman to kill Greg. Diana considers this as a viable option and the couple begins to research how to hire a hitman.
On the night of September 1, 2016, Diana and Weldon go to an isolated hiking trail where they’ve agreed to meet the hitman they’ve hired. However, the hitman turns out to actually be an undercover police officer and Diana and Weldon are immediately arrested.
Diana and Weldon are both charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. They are also charged with assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment. Throughout their trial, the couple maintains their innocence and claims that they never intended for anyone to get hurt.
The trial reveals a complicated web of lies and deceit between Diana, Weldon, and even Greg. It’s revealed that Greg had recorded conversations with Diana and Weldon where they discuss hiring a hitman. It’s also revealed that Weldon had previously been involved in a similar plot to kill a woman’s ex-husband.
As the trial comes to a conclusion, the jury must weigh the evidence and decide the fates of Diana and Weldon. Will they be found guilty of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder? Or will they be acquitted and able to move on with their lives?
