Denise Frei was a 57-year-old Las Vegas resident who owned and operated a successful pet grooming business. Her life took a dark turn when her husband Richard was found dead in their home, having been shot in the head. Denise was immediately suspected of the murder, but her erratic behavior and inconsistent statements soon made her the prime suspect.
As investigators spoke with Denise, they uncovered a web of lies and deceit that began long before Richard's death. Denise had been having an affair with a man named Jeffrey, whom she had met while he was incarcerated. She had been providing him with drugs and money and had even given him a place to stay in her home, much to the chagrin of her husband.
As the investigation continued, authorities discovered that Denise had taken out a very large life insurance policy on her husband just prior to his death. When questioned about this, she claimed that it was simply a business investment. However, further scrutiny showed that Denise had been strapped for cash and was heavily in debt.
Despite all of this evidence pointing to Denise's guilt, she vehemently denied any involvement in her husband's murder. When the case went to trial, her defense team argued that the real killer was Jeffrey and that he had framed Denise in order to get away with the crime.
Ultimately, the jury was unconvinced by Denise's defense and she was found guilty of murder. She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
