Sheila Eddy was just a normal high school student living in Morgantown, West Virginia. She had a tight-knit group of girlfriends, including Skylar Neese, who had been her best friend since they were little. But on July 6, 2012, Skylar vanished without a trace.
Initially, Sheila and their other friend Rachel Shoaf played the role of concerned friends, even going on television to ask for information about Skylar's whereabouts. But as the days turned into weeks and then months, suspicion began to mount against Sheila and Rachel. They had both acted strangely in the aftermath of Skylar's disappearance, and some of their stories just didn't add up.
Eventually, Rachel broke down and confessed to the police that she and Sheila had lured Skylar out into the woods that night and stabbed her to death. The motive? Skylar had apparently discovered that the two girls were in a sexual relationship and threatened to tell their parents.
In Snapped season 18 episode 1, we delve into the twisted mind of Sheila Eddy as she embarks on a heinous plot to murder her best friend. Interviews with law enforcement officials, friends, and family members paint a chilling picture of Sheila as a master manipulator who was able to convince those around her that she was innocent while secretly plotting to commit the ultimate betrayal.
As the investigation into Skylar's disappearance unfolds, we see how Sheila's carefully constructed web of lies begins to unravel. Law enforcement officials piece together a story that paints a picture of two teenage girls who were obsessed with each other and willing to do anything to keep their relationship a secret.
But even after Rachel's confession, Sheila refused to take responsibility for her role in Skylar's murder. She maintained her innocence throughout her trial, even going so far as to blame Rachel for everything.
Through it all, the families of Skylar, Rachel, and Sheila struggle to come to terms with what happened and to find a way to move forward. As the trial draws to a close, we are left with a sense of disbelief and horror at the sheer depravity of Sheila's actions.
Snapped season 18 episode 1 is an intense and emotional look at one of the most shocking murder cases in recent memory. It serves as a reminder that sometimes the most dangerous people are those closest to us, and that betrayal can be the deadliest weapon of all.
