Elizabeth Turpin & Karen Brown were just normal women living their regular lives when their paths crossed. Turpin was a married woman when she met Karen Brown while attending her college course. Turpin was immediately smitten with Brown and began pursuing her romantically despite being married. Eventually, Turpin's husband, Kevin, found out about her infidelity and was understandably upset. However, instead of leaving his wife, Kevin decided to try and make things work between them and even agreed to let Turpin continue seeing Brown as long as it stayed a secret.
Despite their unusual arrangement, Turpin and Brown continued to see each other behind closed doors and eventually decided that they wanted to be together officially. However, they knew that Kevin would never agree to a divorce, so they began to concoct a plan to make him disappear. They hired a hitman, James Hamm, to kill Kevin, and promised to pay him $10,000 for the job.
On the day of the murder, Turpin and Brown went out to dinner with Kevin and returned home to find Hamm waiting for them. They led him to Kevin's bedroom where he shot and killed him. After the murder, Turpin and Brown continued to live their lives as if nothing had happened. They even attended Kevin's funeral, despite the fact that they were responsible for his death.
However, their perfect plan began to unravel when a friend of Hamm's went to the police and told them about the murder-for-hire plot. Hamm was arrested and eventually led the police to Turpin and Brown. The women were arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Throughout the trial, Turpin and Brown tried to pin all the blame on Hamm, claiming that they had nothing to do with the murder. However, the evidence was stacked against them, and they were eventually found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
