Clark Kent is no longer the farm boy that he used to be; now he is a man who embraces his Kryptonian heritage fully and uses his powers to help those around him. In Smallville season 9 episode 12 titled 'Warrior,' we see another layer of the young superhero as he deals with the aftermath of the last episode's events.
At the end of the previous episode, Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow, was badly beaten by a mysterious new villain who now has plans for the Arrow's alter ego. As Clark tries to uncover who this new villain is, he discovers that he is related to an Amazon warrior from Themyscira - the island of the Amazons.
Clark is on a mission to warn the Amazonian warrior, Diana (known to comic book fans as Wonder Woman), that she may be in danger. Meanwhile, Oliver struggles with his injuries and how they will affect his ability to save the citizens of Smallville.
One of the things that make this episode of Smallville so interesting is how much it narrows in on the relationship between Clark and Oliver. Oliver has been a constant presence on the show since his introduction in season 6, and his relationship with Clark has gone through many ups and downs.
In this episode, we see the two heroes at their most vulnerable. Clark is grappling with his new role as a protector of the Kryptonian heritage while Oliver is dealing with the reality that he may not be able to return to his superhero duties.
The interactions between the two are heart-wrenching. Clark is trying to reassure Oliver that he is not alone while Oliver is dejected and unsure if he can continue fighting for Smallville without his physical ability.
Meanwhile, the audience gets to witness the character of Diana in action. She is a fierce warrior with great skill, both in combat and diplomacy - two traits that the DC comic character is known for. The viewers get to witness how much the Amazon hero has grown and developed since the last time we saw her in season 3.
As Clark tries to protect Diana from the villainous Kryptonian, we also see a different side of him. He is not just a bumbling farm boy anymore. He is a grown man who has accepted his destiny and is willing to do anything to protect those around him.
There is also a side story about Lois Lane, who is trying to investigate the truth behind the construction of the secret dam project. While this storyline is not as prominent as the main plot, it adds a nice touch to the episode and gives viewers a glimpse into what Lois's future holds, both personally and professionally.
Overall, Smallville season 9 episode 12 is one of the most emotionally charged episodes of the series so far. It is a must-watch for fans of the show who have followed Clark and Oliver's journey since the beginning. The appearance of Wonder Woman only adds to the excitement of this episode, making it one of the most memorable of the entire series.
