Ep 5. Run

Clark Kent has always struggled to fit in with his peers in Smallville, Kansas. With a secret identity as the superhero Superman, Clark faces new challenges and foes in Season 4 of the hit TV series Smallville. In episode 5, titled "Run," Clark must try to save a life when a young girl with mysterious abilities appears in Smallville.

The episode opens with Clark Kent (Tom Welling) waking up in his barn, surrounded by hay bales and the early-morning sun. As he stretches and rubs his eyes, he hears a noise outside and heads out to investigate. In the distance, he sees a young girl running through a field, her hair streaming behind her. Clark tries to catch up with her, but the girl proves difficult to keep up with and eventually disappears into the trees.

As Clark makes his way back to his farm, he encounters the girl again, this time in the guise of a normal teenager who introduces herself as Chloe (Alessandra Torresani). She tells Clark that she has come to Smallville to find him, after hearing stories of his extraordinary abilities. Chloe also reveals that she has powers of her own, including the ability to run at superhuman speeds and communicate telepathically with animals.

Despite Clark's reluctance to get involved, Chloe insists that she needs his help in order to control her abilities and avoid being caught by the military. She reveals that she had been part of a secret government program to develop biological enhancements in humans, but escaped when she grew tired of being treated like a test subject. Now, she fears being caught and forced back into the program.

Meanwhile, Clark's best friend Pete (Sam Jones III) is struggling with his own problems at school. After getting caught smoking marijuana in the locker room, Pete is given an ultimatum by the principal: either turn in the other students involved or face expulsion. Conflicted about betraying his friends, Pete turns to Clark for advice, but finds that his friend's preoccupation with Chloe has left little time for anything else.

As the episode progresses, Chloe's situation becomes increasingly dire. The military closes in on her, and she is forced to use her powers to outrun and outmaneuver her pursuers. Clark tries to help her as best he can, but must also deal with the fallout from Pete's decision to turn in the other students. The episode culminates in a high-stakes chase through the streets of Smallville, as Clark and Chloe try to evade the military and make their escape.

"Run" is an action-packed episode that showcases the strengths of the Smallville series. The relationship between Clark and his friends is explored in depth, and the introduction of a new character in Chloe adds an intriguing new dimension to the series. Fans of Smallville will not want to miss this exciting installment in the show's fourth season.
