Meanwhile, Lionel Luthor is still obsessed with Clark's spaceship and is determined to find it. He hires a private investigator named Patrick Sullivan, who had worked with Perry White in the past, to investigate Clark. Patrick starts gathering information about Clark's past, and his investigation leads him to the Kent farm.
Patrick is a shrewd investigator and soon discovers that Clark is an alien. He confronts Clark and threatens to expose him if he doesn't give him the spaceship. Clark is terrified and asks his parents for help.
Jonathan and Martha Kent come up with a plan to protect Clark. They invite Patrick over to the farm and pretend to give him the spaceship. However, the spaceship is rigged with explosives, and it explodes in Patrick's face when he tries to open it. The explosion kills Patrick and destroys all the evidence against Clark.
