Clark is back in Smallville for the Harvest Festival, but he's not the only one returning home. Tess Mercer also returns and she has a new agenda – to uncover the secrets of the Luthor family. Meanwhile, Lois is working at the festival and she discovers that a group known as the Harvesters have been kidnapping people and stealing their organs. Clark and Lois team up to investigate and put a stop to the Harvesters' evil plans.
At the same time, Clark is dealing with other issues. He's starting to feel the weight of his responsibilities as Superman and worries about how he can balance that with his personal life. He and Lois also are preparing to move in together, but he's hesitant to take that step. His doubts lead to a disagreement between the couple.
Back at the Luthor mansion, Tess finds out that Alexander (aka Lex's clone) is still alive and in hiding. She convinces him to come out of hiding and tell her everything he knows about the Luthor family's secrets. But when Clark and Oliver find out about Alexander's existence, they worry about the consequences of his return.
As the Harvest Festival continues, the Harvesters continue to take victims. Clark and Lois eventually discover that the Harvesters are working for a man named Gordon Godfrey, who is using the stolen organs for his own evil purposes. They confront Godfrey and a dangerous fight ensues.
Meanwhile, Tess is getting closer to uncovering the truth about the Luthor family, but her investigation leads her down a dark path. She discovers that Lionel Luthor had a secret serum that could give someone superpowers, and she becomes determined to find it. But when she finally finds the serum, she learns that it comes with a dangerous price.
The episode culminates in a dramatic showdown between Clark and Godfrey, and a touching resolution between Clark and Lois. But the final moments leave us with a sense of dread – the return of Alexander and the discovery of Lionel's serum hint at even darker things to come.
