Clark Kent is back at work in the Daily Planet, but his mind is elsewhere. He's been dreaming about his first love, Lana Lang, and finds himself distracted from his job. His current love, Lois Lane, tries to cheer him up by planning a romantic evening, but Clark can only think about Lana.
Meanwhile, a tall blonde woman arrives in town claiming to be Clark's cousin, Kara, from Krypton. Clark is initially skeptical, but eventually recognizes his cousin and welcomes her with open arms. Kara is surprised to discover that Clark has been living among humans for so long, and that he has become a hero in his own right.
When a bank is robbed, Kara insists on helping Clark catch the perpetrators. She uses her Kryptonian powers to fight off the criminals, but Clark is wary of letting her use her powers in public. He fears it may cause unwanted attention and put her in danger.
As they investigate the robbery, they discover that the culprits were hired by someone who is trying to kill Lois. Lex Luthor has returned to Metropolis and is targeting Lois in an effort to get revenge on Clark. Clark and Kara team up to stop Luthor and protect Lois.
In the end, Clark realizes that he can't let his past with Lana hold him back from his present with Lois. He professes his love to Lois, and the two of them share a romantic moment. Meanwhile, Kara decides to stay in town and help Clark with his superhero duties.
The episode ends with Kara taking on the name Supergirl, and Clark encouraging her to use her powers for good. The two of them fly off into the sunset, ready to take on whatever challenges come their way.
