In Sleepy Hollow season 1 episode 3, entitled "For the Triumph of Evil," Ichabod and Abbie are called to investigate the murder of a young woman known for her love of the Revolutionary War and all things historical. Her body was found tied to the Liberty Tree, an ancient oak tree that served as a symbol of resistance during the Revolutionary War.
As Ichabod and Abbie dive deeper into the investigation, they discover that the killer has left behind a trail of historical clues, all pointing to the story of General William Howe, the leader of the British army during the Revolutionary War. The more they learn about Howe, the more Ichabod begins to suspect that the killer is actually a supernatural entity tied to the General's dark past.
Meanwhile, Captain Irving continues to investigate the mysterious murders that have been occurring in Sleepy Hollow, and he enlists the help of a psychologist to try and make sense of the bizarre events that have been unfolding. However, when he discovers that the psychologist has a secret connection to the supernatural, he realizes that he's going to need Ichabod and Abbie's help more than ever before.
As Ichabod and Abbie race against the clock to stop the killer and unravel the connections between the past and the present, they find themselves face-to-face with the demon that has been unleashed in Sleepy Hollow. With the lives of innocent people hanging in the balance, they must work together to stop the demon before it's too late.
Meanwhile, Ichabod continues to struggle with the question of his own purpose in the modern world, and Abbie does her best to help him adjust to the many changes that have taken place since he was last awake. Together, they must navigate the challenges of the present while unraveling the mysteries of the past, all while fighting to protect the town of Sleepy Hollow from the forces of evil that threaten to destroy it.
