As the first episode of SkyMed season 1, Pilots and Nurses and Bears, Oh My! introduces viewers to the world of SkyMed and the high-stakes work of the air ambulance crew. The episode centers around a patient named Mark, a six-year-old boy who has fallen ill while on a camping trip with his family in the remote wilderness of Alaska.

When the family's only means of transportation, a small plane, crashes in the forest, Mark's condition rapidly deteriorates and it becomes clear that he needs immediate medical attention. The SkyMed team is called in to airlift Mark to a hospital in Anchorage, but they face a number of challenges along the way.

The episode begins with the SkyMed crew going through their pre-flight routines, checking equipment and reviewing flight plans. We meet Dr. Ethan Willis, the team's chief flight surgeon, who is responsible for making medical decisions during missions. We also meet the two pilots, Ariel and Tanner, and two of the nurses, Kacie and Nick.

As they prepare to take off, the crew receives a distress call from a small plane that has crashed in the wilderness. They are asked to assist in the rescue effort and are given the coordinates of the crash site.

When they arrive, they find Mark and his family. Mark is clearly very sick and is having trouble breathing. The SkyMed team quickly sets up their medical equipment and begins assessing his condition.

As they work, they realize that the situation is more complicated than they initially thought. The area where the plane has crashed is remote and difficult to access, and the weather has suddenly turned bad. The team will have to rely on their own resourcefulness and ingenuity if they are going to get Mark to a hospital in time.

The rest of the episode follows the SkyMed crew as they navigate the challenges of the rescue mission. They have to improvise a solution when their medical equipment malfunctions, they come face-to-face with a grizzly bear in the woods, and they have to make a difficult decision about whether to go around a mountain range or risk flying through a narrow pass.

Throughout the episode, we get to know the different crew members and their personalities. We see how they work together as a team and rely on each other's expertise to make critical decisions.

Pilots and Nurses and Bears, Oh My! is a thrilling and action-packed episode that sets the tone for the rest of the series. It showcases the real-life challenges faced by air ambulance crews and the dedication of the men and women who do this important work. Viewers will be on the edge of their seats as they watch the SkyMed team race against the clock to save Mark's life.
