Katie and Emily are the ninth episode of the third season of the British teen drama television series Skins. The episode follows the characters Katie Fitch (Megan Prescott) and Emily Fitch (Kathryn Prescott), twin sisters who are trying to repair their relationship after a falling out.
Katie, who is usually the more outgoing and confident of the twins, is struggling with her insecurities and feelings of inadequacy. She becomes obsessed with the idea of winning a prestigious photography competition, despite her lack of experience and talent. Meanwhile, Emily is trying to find her place in the world and figure out her sexuality. She appears to be attracted to women, but is unsure how to explore that side of herself.
As the episode progresses, the twins' issues come to a head. Emily becomes frustrated with Katie's relentless pursuit of the photography competition, which she sees as a way for Katie to prove that she's better than her. The sisters have a heated argument, which ends with Emily storming out of their shared hotel room.
While Emily is out exploring the city, she meets a young woman named Naomi (Lily Loveless) at a lesbian bar. The two hit it off and spend the evening talking and dancing together. Meanwhile, Katie is alone in their hotel room and begins to spiral into a panic attack. She calls Emily, but gets no answer, and ends up taking a dangerous combination of pills and alcohol in a desperate attempt to calm herself down.
The episode climaxes with Katie collapsing and being rushed to the hospital. Emily rushes to her side, and the two finally have a heart-to-heart conversation about their issues and feelings. Katie opens up about her insecurities and jealousy, while Emily admits her own confusion about her sexuality. The sisters reconcile and vow to support each other no matter what.
Katie and Emily is a powerful and emotional episode that explores complex themes of sibling rivalry, self-esteem, and sexuality. The episode is masterfully performed by Megan and Kathryn Prescott, who deliver nuanced and realistic performances as the troubled Fitch twins. It is a must-watch for fans of the series, and a standout episode in an already exceptional season.
