Alo, the sixth episode of Skins (UK) season 5, follows Alo Creevey as he struggles with the responsibilities of adulthood while still trying to hold onto his teenage years. The episode begins with Alo waking up in bed with a girl he barely remembers, and after a quick chat, she reveals that she’s pregnant. This news throws Alo into a tailspin, as he’s unsure whether he’s ready to be a father or even capable of taking care of a child.
Meanwhile, Alo and his friends are planning to pull off a daring stunt – an all-night party at Roundview College, complete with booze, drugs, and music. When Alo finds out about the pregnancy, he tries to back out of the plan, but his friends convince him to go through with it as a way of taking his mind off things. As the party gets underway, tensions run high between Alo and his pregnant fling, and he has to figure out what he really wants in life.
The episode delves into themes of growing up, responsibility, and the pressure to conform to societal norms. Alo, who has always been the lovable goofball of the group, is forced to confront the fact that he’s not a kid anymore and that his actions have consequences. His struggle to reconcile his desire for fun with his newfound sense of duty rings true to anyone who has had to navigate the transition into adulthood.
At the same time, the episode doesn’t skimp on the trademark Skins-style drama and hijinks. The party at Roundview College is a wild, debaucherous affair, with all the sex, drugs, and rock and roll that fans of the show have come to expect. The characters’ relationships with each other are pushed to their limits as tensions flare up and secrets are revealed.
Alo’s storyline in this episode is particularly well-done, as he is forced to confront some uncomfortable truths about himself. As the episode progresses and he has to navigate the party, the pregnancy, and his friends’ expectations, he becomes increasingly introspective, and viewers get to see a more vulnerable side of him than they have before. Actor Will Merrick does an excellent job of portraying Alo’s inner turmoil, and the emotional payoff at the end of the episode is satisfying and moving.
Overall, Alo is a standout episode of Skins (UK) season 5. It manages to be both funny and dramatic, with a well-crafted storyline that tackles some important issues without feeling preachy or heavy-handed. Fans of the show will appreciate the return of some familiar faces, as well as the introduction of some new and compelling characters. And even if you’re not already a fan of Skins, this episode is a great introduction to the series, showcasing everything that makes it such a beloved and iconic show.
