Thomas, the first episode of Skins Season 4, follows the story of Thomas Tomone, a charismatic and popular student of Roundview College. He has a loving family and a close circle of friends who are always ready for a good time. However, Thomas' life takes a turn for the worse when he is faced with a serious and life-altering issue.
The episode opens with Thomas waking up in a luxurious hotel room, surrounded by empty bottles of champagne and a girl he barely remembers from the night before. It's evident that he's had a wild night, but he quickly realizes that it's the day of his final exam. Rushing out of the hotel room, he's determined to make it to the exam on time. However, his luck doesn't seem to be in his favor as he comes across a group of angry protesters blocking his way.
Thomas is a British-Kenyan guy, and he's immediately racially profiled by the protesters who assume he's a migrant worker. The situation escalates quickly as Thomas tries to confront them, and things get physical in no time. Amidst the chaos, Thomas notices a girl, Pandora Moon, who has her own reasons for being at the protest. She isn't exactly someone Thomas would usually hang out with, but he's intrigued by her and ends up helping her after she gets into trouble with the police.
As Thomas and Pandora spend more time together, they discover that they have more in common than they thought. They both find themselves going through difficult situations in their personal lives and are trying to make sense of it all. For Thomas, it's his father's life-changing medical condition, while for Pandora, it's her relationship with her best friend, Effy Stonem. The two soon develop an unlikely friendship that helps them overcome their struggles.
Meanwhile, Thomas' friends are trying to convince him to join them for a massive party they're throwing. Thomas is hesitant at first, but eventually decides to go after being persuaded by one of his friends, JJ. As they arrive at the party, it's clear that things are going to get out of hand. The party is wild and crazy, and Thomas tries to let go of his worries for just one night.
However, things take a dark turn when Thomas gets into a heated argument with one of his friends after discovering that they've been stealing from his father's medical supplies. It's a brutal confrontation that ends in a surprise twist leaving Thomas questioning everything he thought he knew about his friends. It's a sobering moment for Thomas who realizes that his life is far from perfect, and he has deeper issues to deal with than just passing his exams.
Overall, Thomas is a gripping and intense start to Skins Season 4. It delves into themes of race, friendship, trust, and family, and leaves viewers on the edge of their seats. It's a great introduction to the new generation of Skins characters and sets the tone for the rest of the season.
