In the third episode of the second season of Siren, titled "Natural Order," things start to take a darker turn as the characters begin to discover more about the mermaid mythology and their own pasts. We see the aftermath of the events of the previous episode, where we saw a mysterious mermaid attack a group of humans on the beach. The attack has caused a lot of tension between the mermaids and humans, who are now more afraid of them than ever.
We see that Ryn, the main mermaid character, is still struggling with the loss of her surrogate daughter, Donna. She is searching for answers about why Donna died and how she can prevent it from happening again. Meanwhile, Ben, Ryn's human love interest, starts his own investigation into the mermaids and their connection to the mysterious attacks.
We also see more of the relationship between Maddie, Ben's girlfriend, and the mermaid Bristol. Maddie has been hiding Bristol in her home, posing as her deaf cousin, and the two have developed a strong bond. However, Maddie starts to question whether it's safe to keep Bristol hidden, especially with the recent attacks and tensions between the two groups.
As the episode progresses, we see more of the mermaid mythology and their connection to the natural world. We learn that the mermaids have a special connection to the ocean and the creatures that live in it, and that they believe in a natural order that must be maintained. This order is threatened by the pollution and destruction caused by humans, which may be why the mermaids are becoming more aggressive.
The tension between the mermaids and humans comes to a head when a group of fishermen capture a mermaid and bring her onto their boat. The mermaid is panicked and lashes out, injuring one of the men. Ben and his father, who is the town's sheriff, are called to the scene to diffuse the situation. Ben tries to reason with the fishermen, explaining that the mermaids are not all dangerous, but they are skeptical and angry.
The episode ends with Ryn and Ben discovering a new mermaid, who has been injured by the recent attacks. They bring her back to their home to nurse her back to health, but soon realize that there are others out there who may not be as friendly as she is.
Overall, "Natural Order" is a great episode that delves deeper into the mythology and themes of the show. It explores the idea of balance and how humans and mermaids can coexist, while also showing the dangers of ignorance and fear. The performances are strong, and the storyline is engaging and suspenseful. Fans of the show will not be disappointed.
