Sin City Saints is a Yahoo! Screen original comedy series that premiered in 2015. The show follows the misadventures of the fictional Las Vegas basketball team, the Saints, both on and off the court. At the heart of the show is Andrew Santino's character, Jake Tullus, the newly installed general manager of the Saints. Tullus is a brash, fast-talking entrepreneur who thinks he can turn the struggling team around with a mix of unconventional strategies and well-timed PR stunts.
Joining Tullus is an ensemble cast of colorful characters, including the eccentric and often clueless team owner, Kevin Freeman, played by Tom Arnold. Freeman's naivety and quirkiness make for some of the most memorable moments in the series.
Another standout character is Dusty Halford, played by Malin Akerman. Halford is a former stripper turned marketing guru who is always looking for ways to boost the team's profile. Her interactions with Tullus and Freeman are a highlight of the series, as she becomes increasingly frustrated with their antics.
The coaching staff is also well-represented, with former NBA star Rick Fox playing Coach, a reserved and measured leader who tries to keep the team focused despite their off-court distractions. Meanwhile, Nurse Sam, played by Christine Vienna, is the team's diligent and hardworking medical staff, who often finds herself caught up in the chaos that surrounds the team.
The on-court action takes a backseat to the characters' off-court antics, but when the team does take to the court, the show does a good job of capturing the energy and excitement of a Las Vegas basketball game. Baron Davis, who plays a small but pivotal role in the series, deserves a special mention for his brief but highly entertaining appearances as himself.
Overall, Sin City Saints is a fun and irreverent take on the world of professional sports. With its over-the-top characters, fast-paced humor, and Las Vegas setting, the show is a perfect fit for fans of shows like Entourage and Eastbound & Down. While it only lasted for one season, it remains a cult favorite for fans of comedy and sports alike.
