In Shomin Sample season 1 episode 6, titled "Step Outside," we see the girls from the prestigious school, Seikain, venturing outside their bubble of privilege and comfort to explore the "real world." This is all thanks to the intervention of our main protagonist, Kimito, who has been tasked by the headmistress of Seikain to teach the girls about commoners and how they live.
At the start of the episode, the girls are hesitant and even a little scared to step outside of the school's gates. After all, they've been raised to believe that the commoners are dirty, uncivilized, and beneath them. But Kimito is determined to change their minds and show them that commoners are just like them, with hopes and dreams and aspirations.
The first stop on their journey is a local food market, where the girls are amazed by the variety of foods and the hustle and bustle of the vendors. Kimito encourages them to try new things, and they eagerly sample exotic fruits and colorful street food. One of the girls, Reiko, even discovers a newfound love for spicy food and decides to buy a packet of hot sauce to take back with her.
After the food market, Kimito takes the girls to a local park where they play on the swings and try to catch goldfish in a pond. They're initially hesitant to interact with the commoners they encounter, but Kimito encourages them to strike up conversations. They soon find that the commoners are friendly and welcoming, and they become more comfortable with the idea of stepping outside their privileged world.
The final stop on their journey is a karaoke bar, where Kimito challenges the girls to sing their favorite songs. At first, they're shy and embarrassed, but Kimito shows them that it's okay to let loose and have fun. They all end up belting out classic J-pop hits like pros, and even Kimito joins in on the fun.
Throughout the episode, we see the girls grow more and more comfortable with the idea of interacting with commoners. They realize that their preconceptions about commoners were based on outdated beliefs, and that they're just like everyone else. Kimito is proud of their progress and feels that they've taken the first step towards becoming more open-minded and accepting of others.
Overall, "Step Outside" is a heartwarming episode that explores themes of prejudice and privilege. It's a reminder that we should all strive to be more open-minded and accepting of those who may seem different from us. The girls from Seikain learn this lesson in a fun and engaging way, and their journey will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
