In the first episode of Shomin Sample, titled "Welcome, Commoner," we are introduced to the premise of the show as well as the main character, Kimito Kagurazaka. Kimito is a high school student who, through a series of unfortunate events, is kidnapped and brought to an all-girls school named Seikain Academy. However, this is not your average school - Seikain is a school for wealthy girls who have been secluded from the outside world. The girls of Seikain are all extremely sheltered and have never interacted with a man before. As a result, they have many misconceptions about men and the outside world. In order to remedy this, the school has hired Kimito to act as a "commoner" and teach the girls about regular life outside of their wealthy bubble. The catch is that if Kimito does not comply, he will be castrated.
As Kimito adjusts to his new life at Seikain, he meets a variety of girls, each with their own unique personality. Aika Tenkubashi, the "queen bee" of the school, is initially suspicious of Kimito but eventually warms up to him. Reiko Arisugawa, the strict student council president, is initially hostile towards Kimito but eventually becomes more friendly. Kae Tōjō, the clumsy and innocent school nurse, develops a crush on Kimito.
Despite his initial fear and discomfort, Kimito begins to enjoy his time at Seikain and starts to form bonds with the girls. He also learns about the various quirks and traditions of the school, such as the "princess carry," where the girls are carried around by male servants.
However, not everyone is happy about Kimito's presence at Seikain. A group of parents, who are concerned about the effect that a commoner could have on their daughters, conspire to get Kimito kicked out of the school. They hire a private detective to investigate Kimito's background and try to find something incriminating.
The first episode ends with Kimito participating in a traditional tea ceremony with the girls. As he bonds with them over shared interests, it becomes clear that Kimito's presence at Seikain is going to shake up the school in more ways than one.
Overall, "Welcome, Commoner" sets up the unique premise of Shomin Sample and introduces us to the various characters that we will be following throughout the series. While some of the humor can be a bit crude and over-the-top at times, the episode does a good job of balancing comedy with character development. Viewers are left with a sense of curiosity and anticipation as they wonder how Kimito will navigate his new life at Seikain and what challenges he will face in the future.
